Digital strategies for participating in customer decisions

Knowledge Networks

OUR DEFINITION

A true knowledge network is one that can deliver a set of trusted prioritised recommendations derived from structured and unstructured data stored in various collections online.

These networks are Web 3.0 like in behaviour, made up of dynamic atoms of factual information and opinion that may be contributed by many people over a long period of time. The outcome is weighted according to the currency and reviewed validity of the data, the current reputation of the people providing the knowledge, and the specific personal requirements of the user.

Advantages of Knowledge Networks

Knowledge Networks allow for quick efficient decisions from people armed with the most current key knowledge for a given situation. Because two people rarely have exactly the same requirements, a genuine knowledge network must take into account their personal preferences around items like cost vs. quality, speed of delivery, level of trust and proximity of physical providers vs online convenience.

Along with many Web 3.0 semantic concepts, what could truly be considered generalist knowledge networks are probably some way off. Our focus on niche knowledge networks allows us to replicate some of the benefits of Web 3.0 for very specific
outcomes using current technologies.

KnowingNetworks is developing sites as test beds for specific niche decision making and participating in
projects that are building other key components for knowledge networks including.
  • Trust
  • Reputation
  • Collection of knowledge in real time using smartphones like the iPhone
  • Applying connective knowledge
  • Linking and weighting a collection of knowledge for a specific person in specific circumstances and locations

Our consultancy work lets us extend the reach of this into other categories helping build a foundation knowledge network for creating knowledge networks and sharing the learning with our
clients.

Working with new clients though is not about full knowledge networks, it’s very much about getting the
fundamental building blocks right and producing better results today in a manner that is ready for tomorrow.
